Beginner’s Sewing Handbook – Part 3

Precise Cutting - Step-by-step, with confidence!

After taking your measurements, find the contour line for your size and carefully cut along it.

Congratulations for making it this far! 🌟 You’ve already done more for your sewing dreams than most people. Now it’s time to prepare your pattern pieces – and don’t worry, you’ve got this!

✂️ 1. Find your size!

  • You’ll see multiple contour lines on the pattern.

  • Find the line that matches your size and carefully cut along it.

  • Not 100% sure? It’s perfectly okay to double-check your measurements!

📜 2. Check the pattern pieces!

  • Each pattern sheet tells you how many pieces you need to cut.

  • Pay attention to the model and piece numbers — they’ll help you stay organized.

  • Don’t worry if some parts aren’t included as separate pattern pieces!
    – In my patterns, pieces labeled with lowercase letters should be drawn directly onto the fabric following the given measurements.

🧵 3. Add seam and hem allowances!

  • Important: Bian Sew Studio patterns do not include seam or hem allowances.

  • Before cutting the fabric, remember to add:

    • ✨ 1–2 cm seam allowance

    • ✨ 2–5 cm hem allowance

  • It’s simple: trace around the cut-out pattern onto your fabric, and then add the allowances around the edges!

🪡 4. Fabric layout — like a pro

  • Fold the fabric according to the layout guide (usually right sides together).

  • Pin the pattern pieces to the fabric, making sure the grainlines are parallel to the fabric edges.

  • Trace around the pattern pieces and add seam/hem allowances if needed.

  • Draw directly onto the fabric any pieces marked with lowercase letters!

✏️ 5. Extra little touches to make sewing easier:

  • Bian Sew Studio patterns include small numbers at certain points to indicate matching seam points — mark these on your seam allowances for quicker assembly!

  • The layout guide shows in gray where interfacing is needed — this helps strengthen important parts.

  • If your fabric has a directional print, always align your pieces in the same direction for a beautiful final result!

🌟 Tip: Every step you complete is a small victory!

There’s no such thing as a “perfect” cut — only cuts made with care and heart. If something doesn’t turn out perfectly on the first try, that’s absolutely normal. You’re growing with every stitch!

You can be truly proud of yourself for taking action towards your creative dreams. đź’–
